Avoiding "bearing creep" is an underestimated challenge when designing the proper roller bearing for certain applications. Bearing creep happens when the outer rings moves relative to the housing in which it is mounted. Simply applying a light press fit seems easier than it practically is and may cause other functional problems. What is a cylindrical roller bearing?

Cylindrical roller bearings have high radial-load capacity and moderate thrust loads.

They contain rollers which are cylindrically-shaped, but are not true cylinders. Instead, these rollers are crowned or end-relieved to reduce stress concentrations. This geometry results in low friction and allows for high-speed applications.
