It is difficult to imagine a world without steel and iron, so used have we grown to its everyday presence in our lives.

The global steel consumption has risen significantly in the course of the 20th century, in highly developed, emerging and developing economies likewise. The steel consumption of a country has been a barometer for measuring the dynamics of economic progress. JTEKT is making its contribution to this immense industry by manufacturing a large range of bearings which are being used in the steel manufacturing plants.

Experience and capabilities

Bearings for steel manufacturing plants are bound to operate in very harsh environments including extreme temperatures, contamination and operation under very diverse speeds. Thanks to our ample technological knowledge gained through intensive R&D we are capable of manufacturing a complete line of products for a variety of steel making applications such as roll necks, pinion stand, screw down and drive shafts. Koyo advanced bearings are highly recommended for those environments. Their excellent performance and high reliability considerably prolong the service life and reduce maintenance frequency.

FAQ

What is a tapered roller bearing?

A tapered roller bearing is a bearing in which tapered rollers (truncated conical rollers) are inserted between the cup (outer ring) and cone (inner ring). The rollers are guided by the cone back face rib.

They have high radial and axial (thrust) load capacities at low to intermediate speeds. Taper roller bearings are available in single-row, two-row and four-row designs. With single-row bearings, the thrust load capacity is about 60% of the radial capacity. Double-row bearings have a greater radial load capacity and can handle thrust loads from both directions. The rollers can be configured so that the contact lines to the races converge or diverge towards the axis of rotation. Diverging double-row bearings increase the rigidity of the shaft mounting, but converging bearings do not. Other configurations for double-row bearings feature a single outer ring and two inner rings, or two outer rings and a single inner ring. Four-row tapered roller bearings consist of four rows of alternating converging and diverging rollers.
